Review: Black of Mood by J.C. Andrijeski 5 of 5 stars

Black of Mood Black of Mood by J.C. Andrijeski
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way. In this story Black and Miri are in New York because Black is determined to find Brick after the events of the previous book (and he feels it would be better to do it there) Much to Miri's dismay he appears to not be above doing anything and everything in order to succeed in this "vendetta" against Brick. Miri on the other hand is struggling with being in New York with all the publicity and celebrity that involves, plus the changes she sees in Black as everything gets very secretive and confusing. Then there are some dreadful terrorist attacks that implicate Black as the organiser - can their relationship survive all of this drama and uncertainty?

OMG - WOW - this was a very INTENSE story that had me riveted. I could not put it down and found myself reading faster and faster as the story went on as I absolutely HAD to know what happened next. It moved from one situation to the next in a seamless manner as the story quickly developed. As always it was very well written and I could definitely feel all the emotions that the characters were going through - even when they were very intense. I LOVED the dramatic ending and I give no apologies for ignoring everything else while I was reading it. I recommend red wine or chocolate as a treat when you finish this as you'll need to come down from the intensity. I think this is the best book of JC's I have ever read - it just blew my mind. If I could give it a higher rating that 5 I definitely would!!

The Beast Within

Sleepless Beauty by Erin Hayes

Jane and Hayden have been friends since early childhood when a dare in a haunted graveyard goes terribly wrong.

Wow - I loved this story which told the story of a ghost and what went wrong when a dare between friends went a bit too far. It had lots of surprises and as for the twist at the end - WOW. The story was well told and I was living through the events and emotions as the story developed.

The Shadow City The Shadow City by L.C. Hibbett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

The Shadow Children are trying to rescue the halfborn from the Silent Homes but it feels like a losing battle to Grace - now they are having to choose whether to trust the Angels or fight on alone. She has Sam by her side, but they still have to find their way through secrets and lies in the Shadow City.

Wow - lots going on in this book with plenty of twists and turns in the plot - how on earth do they work out who to trust as it seems to be near impossible. I loved the complexity of the story and the way you could not predict the way the story was going to go. It was well written and everything was very clear. I could definitely feel the emotions and thoughts that the characters were going through. I can't wait for the final part of the story.

Phyre can create fire from her hands and is living at Hestia's Home trying to get past bad memories from her past and look towards her future. Then Hephaestus Cronus arrives to stay with his foster mother Hestia so he can recover from heartache. Heph is a metal working god and never expected to be so drawn to the cherry haired girl who is enjoying the solitude that can be found there. Can this crippled god find true love with the fiery spirited woman he is so drawn to?

This is a lovely story of love between two damaged souls. As is often the case the path to true love doesn't run smoothly but it does get there in the end. I loved this story. It was well written, and I could feel the emotions and frustrations experienced by the characters. I loved the ending.

She finds help from a new friend and has to hide from a pirate who is concentrating on vengeance. Then a man from her past warns her and questions this whole journey.

Wow - the plot definitely thickened in this book. I LOVED the story and the way it developed. It was very well told and the writing was easy to understand but also meant that I felt all the complex thoughts and emotions involved in the story. The ending was just WOW!!! I can't wait to find out what happens next in this complex story. You have got to read this.

This was a lovely story that was full of flowing descriptions of the people and the emotions involved in the story. It wasn't obvious how the story was going to end until you were there so you were left guessing. I loved the idea and the plot involved in the story. Life appears to be back to normal for the Deschanel family - they are establishing routine, getting jobs or studying at college. But there are plenty of shadows from the past lurking with the promise of something happening soon.

This was a continuation of the story with yet more strands being pulled together or in some cases pulled apart. The writing was good and I could understand and experience the thoughts and emotions of the characters as the story developed. There are some big stories developing and I look forward to those being concluded in the next book.

Hunting A Demon Hunting A Demon by Sara C. Walker

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

Melantha Caldwell is a spell-turner and she is worried her friend Savion Lebrun (who is also one) is getting into black magic. However he is actually spending time with another girl called Hope who is also experiencing seizures and sleep walking. Then spell-turners seems to be getting sick. Mel has to trust the new guy in town Phoenix to work out what is going on but that is dented when she finds out what he really is. They need to work together to save Hope and stop the demons from becoming free.

This was a lovely story which was well told with lots of plot twists and turns as the story unfolded. I liked the dilemmas Mel went through deciding it she could trust her old friend, the new guy or neither. I could feel her frustration at times when she had no idea what was happening and no one would tell her what was going on.

Shifter Kade MacKenzie is out of control with the Hunger that is driving him wild with a need to kill and eat prey. His best friend and Beta Lennox warns him what is causing it but he finds the whole idea ridiculous - that is until his wolf takes control and takes him on a quest to find his soul-mate.

I LOVED this story and the way that it developed. Kade was the tough guy that you always envision an Alpha to be, but had also soft gentle edges that made him quite irresistible. As for his mate when he find her, she was feisty and had a take no prisoners attitude that fit perfectly into the role of an Alpha's mate. The story was well written and everything was well described. It was full of complicated thoughts, hopes and fears and I could feel all the emotions that the characters were going through.

Ben Burns is a former Black-Ops solider who is having a crisis and breakdown when he is forced into joining the fight to free the icy planet Silverset from terrorists. He is assigned to a team of misfits and they are given some armour which had been retired as it was considered too dangerous to use. Can they free the planet and will it lead to his own salvation?

I loved this story - it contained alien worlds that were described very well and a complicated main character that meant that to describe both fully the story seemed to start slowly, however when the mission started the action developed fairly quickly. I liked the whole plot idea and the links between the characters which developed as the story progressed. A good scifi story that definitely transports you away to other worlds.

Eveye Demsworth has amnesia which started when she was 12 so she has no memory before then. She meets a guy called Raf who becomes her best friend as she struggles with life. Then she is pulled out of school and sent to live with people she is told are her grandparents. She starts to get memories of the missing past after she meets someone called Ash who says they were best friends in the past. Will she continue to remember her past or will the sections she has remembered be all she has for the rest of her life?

I loved this story. It had a great plot with some darker elements and the way the memories came back were well written and enhanced the story. The darker elements were a nice addition and gave a good twist near the end of the book. The descriptions of objects, people and emotions were clear and well written. It contained a great dilemma between her two best friends. I won't give it away but I loved the way it developed.

However, as is often the case, it doesn't quite work how it should have. Can the pack alpha Mathis, save the situation.

I loved this story - it was sweet (in more ways than one) . It was a well written story and had lots of drama and excitement. I loved the concept of the story and the end results of all that drama.

Shannon was an independent woman with a job she loved - then the prophesy came along and she and her friends are all in hiding. Now, along with her friends, she is in hiding so that Cornelius (leader of the Faction) can't kill them all and absorb their power so he can control the world. Then she gets the chance to become bait and work with a 500 year old vampire called Asher Leroux who has made Shannon's soul complete.

Just WOW - I loved this story and the dramatic conclusion to the series although I felt that there was more that could have been said about the various friends, their partners and what happens next. I guess I just didn't want the story to end. It was well written, I could feel the emotions and feelings that the characters were going through and empathise with them. Please write a Bitten #6.

Ricki is very cautious of having a relationship with anyone as she is the product of a home where her father was completely incapable of fidelity. Calder is a shifter with piercing green eyes and they seem to see right through Ricki. They have what she assumes is a one night stand then she does everything she can to avoid him. Then the world gets dangerous and she can't get away from him.

I loved this story. We all need a Calder in our life with his lovely green eyes and his devotion to the woman who he knows is his - if only she would accept that too. The story was well written and worked seamlessly into the whole series and further developments in the story.

Anasofiya Deschanel has run to Maine to escape her demons but learns she cannot do that. Then she ends up getting caught between the St Andrews brother - Jon has the darkness like her and Finn is kind and good (something she feels she does not deserve). Ana learns much more about herself and her demons as well as her own origins. Things will never be the same again.

This was a good book that explains all about Maine, Ana and her relationship with both of the St Andrews brothers. It was explained fairly well although I did find myself getting a bit frustrated with some of the characters - not sure if that was down to the writing or just the way the characters were behaving (I wanted to knock some heads together). The writing was good and the story was explained well.

Chronicles of Magic: A Paranormal Magic Boxed Set Chronicles of Magic: A Paranormal Magic Boxed Set by K.N. Lee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

This book contains 10 stories - some full and some novellas that are either magical or paranormal in some way. Overall the book is a great bargain and contains some really good stories - I only found one that I didn't enjoy.

Full Moon Falling - Calinda B
Kara Falko needs to decide on the future - can she save Ace Diamante and save existence? Can she shoot her fiance in the chest to save her own life?

I LOVED this story - it was well written and I loved the twists and turns in the story. Right until the end I had no idea how it was going to finish.

Mirror Mirror - Susan Stec
A story of a sadistic psychopath and a mirror obsession.

I really didn't enjoy this story and just never really understood what was going on half of the time. You might want to skip this one as I felt it brings down the entire collection of books.

Barely Magic - Catherine Vale
Angela Mason works for the Order of Protection, and Cole Avery is a mercenary brought in to help find a missing person.

I LOVED this story - it was well written and kept me dying to know what was going to happen next.

Love Voodoo - Alyssa Breck
Vampire Luca is attracted to Collette after she does a tarot card reading for him. However she is a human - problem is she seems to be the only person who can save him from himself.

I really enjoyed this story. It had a good plot and was well written. It also had some nice details about the characters that made them very real. There was drama at the end and it made for a good finish to the story.

Voodoo & Fate - Tamsin Baker
Chanti is a voodoo priestess and also a healer. After a simple request from a friend can she cope with the draw to a werewolf that she seems unable to resist?

Wow - LOVED this story. The story had plenty of twists and turns and a kick ass voodoo practitioner at the centre of it. It was well written and I was completely swept away by the story and what would happen next.

Shadows - RaeAnne Hadley
Tabitha Reynolds feels a shiver up her spine when near Shadow Demons. She is also alone because her family died when she was younger and she is so terrorised by the demons (that caused their deaths) that she avoids people and relationships (especially after they killed her first boyfriend too). Justin Murphy has a similar story as he is all alone after his family were killed. He can also see them but has made it his life's work to find a way to kill them. After a chance encounter they meet and discover that they are not unique as there is someone else who can see them too.

An intriguing tale of demons and special abilities which I really liked and thought it was a clever story well written - I just need to look for the next book in the series as I HAVE to know what happens next.

Darken - Angela Fristoe
Gavin walker is reeling from the death of his fiancee two years ago. His is now working with his late fiancee's best friend Coraline Evan's which is making it harder but Cora is now trying to keep him alive even if it negatively affects her.

This story had lots of dark actions with dodgy motives in the world of scientific experiments. It was well written and a nice story to read with a few twists and turns to add to the mix.

Demon of Envy - Jennifer Lynne
Thor has been given a second chance as a human and hopes to find redemption so he can get back to where he should be - but can he manage it?

This was a lovely little story about envy and what it can do to you. It was well written and I really wanted them both to be able to have a HEA. Contains adult scenes.

The last of the Jinn - K.N.Lee
Trust no one - not even the man you created - is the lesson the goddess Malah learns in this story.

This was a dramatic story of love and loss. It was well written and I could feel her pain and despair as she went through all those events in her life.

Slow Burn - Amy Lee Burgess
Duke is a firefighter who can control fire and Erin is a banshee. Can he handle her when she has visions of violent deaths?

This is a lovely story about two people with special skills merged into a story of love. I liked the real feeling to all the characters and relationships between them

I voluntarily reviewed this book and I have not been compensated in any way.

When the universe population are starting to suffer poverty and hardship, the once peace loving Seythra alien nation unexpectedly attack and declare war on the Confederate and their military. There appears to be no hope and there is little or no trust between people and nations anymore. Seraph Aydrian must lead a group of soldiers/mercenaries/civilians to try and stop the killing, the chaos and also importantly work out why this has happened.

This was a great story building up to an epic tale of of nations trying to exist together and how power and corruption can affect them all. The central characters were all well described and had what felt like real personalities. I really felt for the general population as the attacks and fighting spread and was hoping against hope that Seraph and the rest of his crew would be able to do something to save people. The book was well written and the plot hung together well and was suitably complex with some nice twists and turns.

The story was well written and I could definitely feel the emotions for the characters involved in the story.

Ron and Claire Rasmussen have struggled for years to have a child and have decided to go down the adoption route but finds there are still many obstacles and years of waiting in their way. Then in a phone call from an uncle she finds he has the secret of time travel. In a short time Clare, Ron and her brother David are transported to Tennessee in 1945 where there are lots of infants to adopt and not much in the way of red tape - sounds simple. However nothing in life that is worth having is ever simple and although they have met some really good friends they also find themselves in a race for survival.

I LOVED this story. It had lots of really great detail and references to events that happened during this time in history which the characters were involved in - sometimes intimately. There were lots of twists and turns in the story and although some events you just knew we likely to happen, there were still more than enough that were surprises. Everything was well written and I could sense the thoughts, emotions and feelings that the characters were experiencing. I won't give away any spoilers but there were a couple of moments that I certainly felt emotional about. A great ending to the series although I have to admit to feeling a little sad that it is the end.

After making a dreadful mistake Ana Deschanel runs away from New Orleans to Summer Island, Maine. However it's not as friendly and tranquil as she helped especially her veterinarian neighbour Jonathan St. Andrews.

Ana Deschanel has made a terrible mistake. The only chance of protecting the other people involved is to flee New Orleans, the only home she has ever known, for the quiet solitude of Summer Island. The locals are distant and cold, especially her neighbour, the reclusive veterinarian Jonathan St. Andrews, but thankfully she has a lifeline in the caretaker Alex Whitman who tries to warn her that she is not prepared for the impending winter. She also meets Jonathan's brother Finn but when attempting to return something to Finn she slips and falls onto some jagged rocks. Thankfully the brothers find her in time but have to find a way to protect them all from a storm and some mysterious darkness that are approaching.

They are joined by an Afrikaner hunter, a former wrestling star, a Russian warrior woman with lots of tattoos, a pair of nerds and an intern with some unknown skills.

I loved this story even though I almost feel as if I shouldn't - Horror generally isn't my thing. It had plenty of surprises and action, with plenty of twists and turns. Just when I thought I could see where the story was going something dramatic happened and there was a change. The characters were very real in the way they were described and I could empathise with their thoughts and frustrations. Very enjoyable.

Jacob's first attempt at time travel leaves him and Amelia back in Louisiana - only problem is that the year is 1861 and the Civil War is about to start. Even worse they have no luggage, no invitation and have to think quickly and rely on the goodwill and manners of Charles and Brigitte Deschanel who believe they are cousins visiting from abroad. As they try to come to terms with the tragic things that caused them to flee in the first place, they both struggle and Amelia finds herself in the world of a strange man called Victor who seems to know everything there is about them both. As they struggle to find themselves again and handle what has happened they are drawn into the rather bizarre world of the Deschanel family which has the potential to drive them further apart. Can they get through this and still be together before they stay too long and cause untold damage?

I liked this story. I found it a little hard going at times but I think that was probably because they had so much to sort through in their lives and that affected me as well. It was well told and everything was clearly explained. I could feel their thoughts and emotions which made me so desperately sorry for them at times. You definitely need to read the previous books in this series to understand what is going on in this one.

Ex police detective Callie Saunders is lucky to be alive but is doing well away from all the Greek gods and goddesses - but of course she is missing the one she loves so it is always going to be a struggle.

It all comes to a head when a god seeking vengeance kidnaps her son and she has to go back to the world of those gods and goddesses to try and rescue him. Will she save not just him but maybe even humanity and how will she cope with seeing the one who seems to hold her heart?

What can I say? I LOVED this story. It was full of plots, twists, turns, emotions and passion. I loved the way the story was woven into the Greek mythology whilst also making all the gods and goddesses more "human" with the same feelings and emotions as the rest of us. Now all I need is for Erin to get going on the next part of this story as I NEED to know what happens next.
